KATI AND JAMES, SANTA BARBARA, CA 2010

The Green Banana Skateboard Company was officially founded in 2010, by myself, James Giberson and my lovely wife (and fellow skateboarder) Kati.   After being laid off due to economic conditions in 2009, I figured it was the perfect time to manifest this longtime dream of mine.  The idea to use recycled plastics to make skateboards actually came to me in a dream (Really) and so I went forth with months of planning, drawing, testing, re-drawing, re-testing...you get the idea.  Then Kati came up with the name right out of the blue, or better yet green, and from there the seed  was planted.  Alot of people think it's ironic that the most eco friendly skateboard company is based out of New Jersey, but after all, we are the Garden State.

After many attempts, we finally found a formula and shape that was fun, earth friendly, and durable enough to withstand the elements & everyday wear and tear.  Made in America, from American Waste, the Green Banana Skateboard Company not only helps to support domestic job growth, but also does it in an earth friendly and thoughful way. We know the effects of what our landfills can have on the earth, so we try to do our part to lessen the burden of our generation, and leave a beautiful, sustainable Mother Earth for our future generations to come.

As for myself, I got my first board in 1987, a Nash Executioner, but I didn't really skate that much, and lost interest.  Then in 1995, I bought a used Foundation deck off my friend Timmy Capra, and I used my work money to buy trucks, wheels, and bearings.  My first REAL day skating (I say) was in Philadelphia, Love Park, Summer 95', Sub Zero Contest...I was completely amazed at this whole sub culture I was now a part of.  Friends giving props to each other for landing tricks, different crews, styles... a live DJ spinning Hip Hop.  This was my wonderland, and from that day forth I have skated non stop.  In 1996 I joined The Marine Corps and served 4 years Active Duty, living in California, Okinawa Japan, and South Korea for most of my tour.  Whether it's art, music, skateboarding, or the helping the environment, everything we do here at The Green Banana is a direct reflection of values we hold very TRUE.  In other words, we practice what we speak.

In closing, we would like to thank all of our many supporters, friends, family and loyal fans worldwide.  Without you all, we would not exist to keep pushsing forward with new shapes, ideas, and other ways to help lessen our carbon footprint.  We truly give thanks to you all and wish you many blessings for this new year to come...we here at The Green Banana will be looking forward to offering more great Eco-Friendly products.  So keep on cruising, and know that for every mile you skateboard, you lessen our carbon emissions by a substantial amount, and also create a healthier & more active you.
